Annalie Wilson
Green Note Ltd, The Basement Bar, NW1 7AN , [Venue Details]Annalie Wilson is a deep and soulful singer-songwriter who tells it like it is — or how it could be. Tenderness dances with yearning in a voice that comes straight from the heart. Her songs explore the perfect imperfection of being human, the wars we wage inside and out.
Backed by guitar and piano, her live show is an immersive experience of storytelling, emotional reckoning, and left-field humour.
Raised in Leeds via the Highlands of Scotland, Annalie’s music has been influenced by jazz, funk, and blues, as well as a decade-long love affair with Georgian folk song. Described as a contemporary marriage of Joni Mitchell and Nina Simone, her songs entwine the personal and the political, with depth and lightness in equal measure.
During lockdown, she produced a series of contemplative protest songs including Breath, whose powerful video featuring former National Ballet dancer Shevelle Dynott was screened at New York’s NoirFest. Subsequent years brought several losses, and her recent releases Depths, Everyday Magic, and Think I’m Over It Now take audiences on an uplifting journey through grief to recovery.
“Relatable and inspirational…embroils a listener to hang on to every long note and wish the song would go on for longer” – Get Into This
“Wilson has created something remarkable – a song that finds hope not in fighting on, but in finally laying down arms against ourselves.” – B Side Guys
